Q&A with Lauren Heywood, Associate Director Strategic Partnerships, Khoury College of Computer Sciences

October 11, 2022Lauren Heywood

  1.  What inspires you to work in this industry?

I am so inspired by being able to make an impact in student’s lives by bringing them opportunities with industry partners to form relationships and obtain co-ops, internships, and full time positions. I also love the college and university that I work for. I am proud of our values and our mission, and feel very good about being able to share this with employers of all sizes, knowing that our faculty, staff and students are a great representation of Khoury College at Northeastern.

  2. Why did you decide to join NACRO?

To learn and to build meaningful relationships with others in the field that I can truly rely on. NACRO has been invaluable to me as I am working on standing up a program at my own college. I joined to be able to use the best practices of other academic institutions and adapt them as our own, and to go a step further and to speak with the folks responsible for these best practices and understand the journeys and obstacles they have gone through.

  3. What do you enjoy most about your NACRO membership? What gives you the most value?

I took so much away from the NACRO conference. It was a tremendous opportunity for me to grow my network and to develop my business acumen.

  4. Tell us about a time that you felt like a hero at work. What were you working on and why did you feel this way?

I’m not sure that I have a great example of a time that I felt like a hero, but I definitely have a time when I felt like I was really making an impact. I recently brought a large employer onto campus to meet with our students from both the undergraduate and the graduate studies level. It gave the students the chance to meet senior level folks and recruiters and to humanize the experience of applying to a company so large. The feedback of this experience from the students was very thankful and appreciative, I felt so proud I was able to give that to them.

  5. Who is someone that inspires you in your daily life?

I am mom to a fierce five year old girl and twin one year old boys. My daughter recently uncovered that my job is actually more than me just talking on the phone, and she was delightfully surprised! She tells people that I work at a University every chance she can get. Going to work and having this job is for my family, but she really inspires me to be GREAT at my job. She does still think I’m a teacher, but we are working on it.
