Q&A with Debbie Meyer, Washington University in St. Louis

August 11, 2022Debbie Meyer

  1. What is your current role at your institution/company?
I am the senior director of corporate relations at Washington University in St. Louis.

  2. How long have you been a NACRO member?

I joined NACRO in 2016 when the conference was held at Georgetown and have been active ever since. I’ve been a part of professional development and marketing, and served on the board as marketing chair.

  3. What do you enjoy most about your NACRO membership?
I can point to so many things, but I think the thing I find most valuable is the networking aspect. NACRO members are so generous with sharing their expertise, and it is heartening to know that at any given moment I can reach out to our membership for insights on anything related to our field.

  4. So far, what has been your greatest Corporate Relations success? What has been your greatest challenge?
My greatest success (so far!) has been securing a multi-million dollar gift from a company that had never before given to the university. It took five years and seizing every opportunity to engage the company in a holistic way. What has been your greatest challenge? My greatest challenge is having enough time to be responsive and available to all the demands.

  5.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
I have been the winner of two radio contests. One was an all-expenses paid trip to Denver, Colorado when I was 18. The second one was an extended weekend trip to the Bahamas when I was in my 30s.
